My 2 cents, whether anyone cares or not:

1. Dave is awesome, but I occasionally think he's batshit insane.

2. Andy is on the List of People on the Internet Who Are Awesome and With Whom I Would Like to Have a Beer.

3. Kevin is awesome, though I actually disagree with him a bit in this present discussion.

4. TWF is a decent forum, though like most large forums the signal to noise ratio is bad. Still, if you have any experience on the web and can read/skim with any reasonable speed, it's pretty easy to pick out the good stuff. TWF is the largest general content (as opposed to army specific) WH forum I know of, and makes a pretty good resource for discussion from all over the world. Of course the problem of people thinking the customs of their people are the laws of nature (ie: the way they play WH is the way everyone plays, and the things that work for them are going to work just as well elsewhere) is always an issue, but that's the way it is everywhere. If anyone can point out another forum that does what TWF does, but better, please post a link. I'd love to check it out.

5. It is the absolute right, and IMO the duty, of forum moderators to restrict the free expression of their posters in such a way as to a) filter out as much pure garbage as possible and b) reduce the number of fights and arguments. Where any given forum/moderation team sets the limits is up to them, and every poster gets to vote with his feet by staying around and following the rules or going elsewhere. It's one of the toughest jobs of a moderator to judge where exactly to draw the line between censoring/censuring posts/posters and letting the discussion run its course. It sucks to cut off a productive discussion just because one or two people are being dicks. IMO it's usually better to come down on the bad posts but let the thread live, and over on Dakka we let people fight more than on TWF, but I can't really argue with their choice to draw the line where they do.

6. Kevin, I knew EXACTLY where Paul Gates was coming from with his "gimme a break" comment, before he explained it. When you start with an apology then write critical comments about the decision and the judgment of the people you're apologizing to in the SAME POST, it sabotages your whole apology. It makes it come across as insincere and grudging. I totally understand where you're coming from re: the original thread, and sympathize with your feelings on the subject and re: free speech, but I really think this fight with Paul is partly due to your miscommunication and not recognizing what you were putting out there. In person you're extremely effective at keeping things on a friendly level with your tone and your attitude, but occasionally you express something in writing in a way that could easily be offensive to someone who hasn't met you and seen what a ray of sunshine you are. The whole punch in the mouth thing is the same way. The way you wrote it I would have been pissed if you had written it about me, even though I DO know how nice you are.
