First reaction is that its a seriously well produced ruleset, but considering its from Osprey publishing, one shouldn't be surprised by that.
It seems one does combat resolution prior to rolling any dice, taking into account all kinds of advantages - ie, outnumbered, opponent disordered, etc.. This makes a good deal of sense.
What I'm having the most trouble getting used to is that there are no Warhammer-style profiles for troops in the sense of weapon skill, initiative, leadership, but you instead look at quality ratings, troop types, and motivation. I'm not sure yet how that impacts close combat.
Dice rolls for melee take place simlutaneously, which makes sense, but the other thing that will take some getting used to for me is totalling up the hits and applying the necessary modifiers. I've read that over twice and can't quite figure out how to do it.
I think we can play this pretty easily without rebasing anything. Instead, making smallish movement trays will do the trick to represent each of the base elements needed to create units.
I'm interested in playing this with anyone else who might be. The more rulesets the merrier.
