What does everyone else think? Do you all feel this way too? Are you going to be making a switch go black tempar or space wolves who can choose the size of the squads they run?

So.... Combat Squads... |

I've been toying around with army lists... and I've come to the conclusion that I really don't like them. Purchasing marines in blocks of 5 is
just so limiting to the armies you can build. Yeah yeah, i know how great a rule it is for 5th edition, but in terms of putting together the list that I WANT
to play, I really just don't like it. I want to be able to field units of 8. I don't want to go either 5 or 10 in terms of jump-packers (I was
heavily looking at dark angels).

it's tricky... On the one hand you have Black templar that can field huge squads that you run up the middle or toss in a landraider crusader, which will
most likely contest or hold an objective, then you have the total opposite combo of combat squads.
The tricky thing about combat squads is using them. Or KP missions you will be running a full 10 man squad which will likely have a serg, an assualt weapon and a heavy weapon plus some sort of vehicle or drop pod. On Alpha like missions you'll have all your squads broken into combat squads to up the number of scoring units on the table. Which is great but you will probably be drop podding the assault weapon piece of the squad and shooting the other. Pete |

Wow... you totally missed what i was talking about.
I don't care about the effectiveness of combat squads. I care about army composition. Going with choices of either 5 or 10 limits what folks can take. Marines haven't been that way since 2nd ed. |

I actually applaud it as it follows codex astartes. It's one of the of the only things GW has done in a long time to force some fluff into 40k. BT are
crusaders and thus pool recruits into units to maintain squads size, and BAs, DAs, SWs were all first founding with primarchs that had different ideas on
Legion design.
But I hear you though, 8 guys is usually as strong as 10 and 2 SMs add up to a legitimate amount of points across a couple squads. I would just succumb to the dark side and run Chaos. Although, interestingly chaos has been running warbands of roughly 10,000 years and still haven;t some up with a transport for that many people??? What gives. Can we get a Chaos landraider crusader already!!! Pete |

You're welcome to borrow the pumpkin marines. You just have to transport them to the city.
