Are they any longer viable? Do you now go with a HTH/single gun variation? Before I was thinking barbed stragler/venom cannon combo but now? Perhaps a
better combo is now more appropriate?

I think just about everything is back on the table;
BS is great now, and will have to go on anything called a Gunfex. Couple it with a: ST: and it is cheap enough to put in elites VC: the VC can't destroy, but it still has a long shot, and it is S10 and can keep tanks shaken, and still has matching range TLDeath: "Only 24" range, but with the new 'always hit/scatter" rule, and the 'no partials' rule, and "reroll cuz twinlinked" rule and you have something that should be able to 2-4 S7 infantry hits per turn; or a vehicle hit that is almost as good as the BS (not AP-, can Pen, S7) TLDev +BS: Tried and true weapon platform. 3 S6 hits per turn. Only AP- and 18" range, but still lots of firepower. The biggest drawback of the TLDev and TLdeath, is that they are shorter range, which means they are more likely to be near your other models, and the BS will scatter. (The TLDeath you can reroll, so that shouldn't be much of a threat.) My new list is using some BS/TLDev and BS/TLDeath; I just haven't played any games with them yet. The other question, is if +BS is worth the points. It helps with the scatter, but most of the time that help won't make an actual difference.

Dakka fex are still really good. The volume of fire is more important now becasue of the increase in cover saves.
Also, there will be a much larger focus on little bugs, especially as they can come on the side board edges now and are the only thing that score. Also a word of caution, little bugs are now liability to large bugs in hth. If the little bugs lose you could easily lose a big bugs becasue of the large amount of wound they will have to take. On the same note, it's probably important to win combat with little bugs now. If you lose by 10 it's likely you will have to take another 10 wounds. So big bugs squads can get trashed quickly. Pete |
